This film is adapted from the last work of San Mao of the same name. During the Japanese occupation, female writer Shen Shaohua (played by Lin Qingxia) serialized her autobiographical novel "Magnolia" in a newspaper, resonating with many readers. One day, she receives a mysterious letter from a reader. She finds herself intrigued by this man named Zhang Nengcai (played by Qin Han). Eventually, they meet and fall in love at first sight. However, Zhang is a traitor, often causing trouble with outsiders, which makes Shaohua uneasy.
