The story takes place in Jerusalem in 1942, where David (played by Tom Hanks) and his friend Peter (played by Benedict Taylor) join the Royal Air Force and are stationed there. During this time, David meets a girl named Sarah (played by Cristina Marsillach), and after many ups and downs, they fall in love. However, Sarah is born into a very traditional Jewish family, and for her parents, marrying outside of their ethnicity is a great sin. To separate Sarah and David, her family imprisons the poor girl and even goes to great lengths to force her to marry her cousin. Realizing that she cannot escape her tragic fate, Sarah decides to see David one last time and then completely gives up hope of struggle.
