In 1900, imperialism knocked on the long-closed door of China with foreign guns and cannons, as the Eight-Power Allied Forces charged in, burning, killing, and looting, committing all kinds of atrocities. Empress Dowager Cixi and the Emperor fled the Forbidden City in a panic, while the common people who couldn't escape suffered the slaughter and humiliation at the hands of foreigners. The Boxers, led by the brave Shi Buren, rose up in resistance, but were ultimately outmatched in weaponry and were slaughtered by the foreigners, suffering countless casualties.
Near the outskirts of Beijing, Drunken Ghost Zhang San (played by Xu Linwei) lives in seclusion here; he possesses extraordinary skills and martial arts prowess. His father was an official in the Qing court but was framed by Ronglu, resulting in the death of his family. With the help of his childhood friend Wang Liyuan (played by Hui Yinghong), Zhang San kills Ronglu's henchman, the Jade-faced Wolf, and escapes to the capital.
