Directed by Agnès Varda, known as the "grandmother of the French New Wave" in 1991, this documentary is a portrait of her husband, the famous French director Jacques Demy ("The Umbrellas of Cherbourg," "The Young Girls of Rochefort"). Demy was a child in the late 1930s; his father owned a car garage, and his mother was a hairdresser, providing a comfortable family life. He loved to sing and watch movies, fascinated by all forms of performance. He bought a camera to make his first amateur film. This film provides a comprehensive examination of Jacques Demy's childhood and career through the perspectives of those closest to him.
