Zhao Shuxin (played by Liu Zifeng) is an engineer at a mining company, known for his honesty and diligence. One of his few hobbies is chess, and he treasures his set of chess pieces. However, upon returning from a business trip, he realizes that one piece is missing. In a panic, he rushes to the post office in the rain and sends a telegram saying “Black Cannon lost 301 looking for Zhao” to the hotel in search of the piece. Unexpectedly, this telegram arouses suspicion at the post office, which reports it to the Public Security Bureau for investigation, escalating into what is known as the "Black Cannon Incident." As a result of this incident, Zhao Shuxin is reassigned from his original position and is prevented from participating in the ongoing German cooperation project. The company replaces Zhao Shuxin, who is fluent in German, with a travel translator named Feng Liangcai, significantly impacting the progress and quality of the project. Soon after, the post office delivers a package addressed to Zhao Shuxin, which the higher-ups at the mining company secretly open, only to find a chess piece inside...
