The legendary life of Pan Yuliang, a female painter in the early Republic of China. Pan Yuliang was originally from a brothel in Jiangnan and had a unique talent for painting, but no one recognized her. An opportunity introduced her to Pan Zanhua, the director of the salt industry at the Wuhu Customs (played by Er Dongsheng), who subsequently took her as a concubine. She followed Pan Zanhua to Shanghai, and upon seeing her passion for painting, he introduced her to professional teachers to study, thus beginning her life as a painting student.
