In 1942, the flames of the Japanese invasion reached the central Hebei plains. Bowing down in submission only leads to death; rising up to resist is the ultimate way out. The people of Hebei mobilized to resist the Japanese army, with Gaojiazhuang gathering a large number of militia. To counter the Japanese army's planes and artillery, the local people carved out a network of complex tunnels using the terrain. Militia captain Gao Chuanbao (played by Zhu Longguang) utilized these clever tunnels to lead the militia in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese army. Although they suffered greatly due to the betrayal of a traitor in their midst, Tang Binghui, the clever and courageous Gao Chuanbao ultimately led his team to encircle and defeat the Japanese army using the tunnels, eliminating Tang Binghui and capturing the Japanese leader, Yamata. The victory in the Tunnel Warfare struck the strongest chord in Hebei's resistance against Japan.
