Novelist Zhou Shijie (Jet Li) faces divorce from his wife Monica (Cynthia Khan), and in his frustration, he begins writing the script for the television series "Adventure King." In his imagination, he becomes Wei Yixin, an adventure king from the Republican era, while Monica transforms into the Japanese spy Kameko, allowing him to vent his frustration. Tang Seng's lost and now missing wordless scripture, which was obtained in ancient times, becomes the target for both the Chinese and Japanese governments. To prevent the Japanese from getting a head start, the Chinese government invites archaeologist Wei Yixin and his apprentice A Cheng (Takeshi Kaneshiro) to trace the whereabouts of the scripture. They discover clues on the surface of a scripture box and infiltrate the Japanese consulate, where they meet the mysterious beauty Kameko. The duo subsequently traces the clues to a newspaper company, where they learn about the scripture box's location from editor Ying Shu (Lo Hoi-pang), but the information also reaches Kameko.
