Captain Frank (Dennis Quaid) has dealt with planes for many years, and this time he will be in charge of a "Phoenix" cargo plane, transporting a group of oil workers and supplies to Beijing. However, to his surprise, the plane encounters a storm along the way, and Frank is forced to make an emergency landing on the desolate Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia. Fortunately, there are not many casualties, but their supply of water is only enough to last for a month, and the chances of waiting for rescue during that time are akin to winning the lottery. Amid hunger and panic, the survivors begin to have various disagreements and arguments. The last passenger, who claims to be a plane designer, suggests using the wreckage to build a new plane for rescue. However, constructing a plane is not as simple as it seems, and as they continue to try, their morale depletes, and their remaining water supply dwindles. Can the heavily damaged "Phoenix" be reborn in the vast Gobi? This film is a remake of the 1965 film of the same name, both adapted from the novel of the same name by British author Elleston Trevor.
