After Detective Dee (played by Zhao Youting) successfully solves the case of the Dragon King of the Capital, Emperor Gaozong (played by Sheng Jian) grants him the divine artifact, the Kanglong Mace. However, he faces jealousy from Empress Wu Zetian (played by Lau Kar-ling). The Empress plots to steal the Kanglong Mace and sets up Detective Dee by gathering a group of skilled practitioners known as the "Anomalous Group," assigning Yuchi Zhenjin (played by Feng Shaofeng) to lead them. With the assistance of the medical officer Shatuo Zhong (played by Lin Gengxin), Detective Dee successfully escapes the persecution of the "Anomalous Group" and discusses a reconciliation with Yuchi Zhenjin. Meanwhile, the assassin Shuiyue (played by Ma Sichun) from the "Anomalous Group" discovers that an unknown force has emerged in the capital. As Detective Dee navigates Wu Zetian's traps, the Tang Dynasty falls into a deeper crisis.
