Paul Giamatti plays an actor in a theater company in New York who is rehearsing Chekhov's play Uncle Vanya. However, this play has left him physically and mentally exhausted, nearing a breakdown. By chance, Paul discovers an organization called the Soul Warehouse. Using advanced technology, Paul successfully extracts 95% of his soul. After this, his acting shows no progress; instead, he often feels an inexplicable emptiness, and his personality begins to change. In an effort to return to a normal life, Paul "installs" the soul of a Russian woman at the doctor's suggestion, which only makes him more agitated. He strongly insists on reclaiming his own soul but finds that the soul he had stored safely has vanished... The film won the Best Actor Award at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Paul Giamatti).
