The story is adapted from the fifty-seventh chapter of "Journey to the West," titled "The True and False Sun Wukong." It tells of how Sun Wukong fell victim to the scheme of the Yellow-browed Old Monster, being imprisoned in a mysterious cave, losing all his powers and having his Ruyi Gold-Banded Staff confiscated. The Yellow-browed Old Monster established an immovable and powerful army in this mysterious cave, imprisoning various monsters.
