Twenty years ago, due to the rape and murder of a girl named Yi Yun, repeat offender Wang Yuanyang (played by Zhang Jiahui) was imprisoned. Enduring humiliation in prison, he transformed into a bizarre, fearsome mute killer. Just after being released, he becomes embroiled in a horrific case: the half-Chinese, half-British conductor Xu Hanlin is found dead, his body dumped in a remote seaside area, disfigured and covered in wounds.
