As early as the 13th century, skilled artisans in Tibet created the "Heart of Dunhuang," a treasure capable of opening the place where Xuanzang's relics were kept. For centuries, the monks who once guarded the relics in Dunhuang gradually transformed into an acrobatic family, continuing their sacred mission to protect the holy object. The latest generation of this acrobatic family—Bai Yanfei (played by Michelle Yeoh), and the siblings Bai Yuetong are performing in Qingdao. Meanwhile, Bai Yanfei's ex-boyfriend and her father’s (played by David Wu) apprentice, Eric (played by Ben Chaplin), successfully steals the Heart of Dunhuang at the request of tycoon Karl. After learning the secret of the Heart of Dunhuang, Eric steals the treasure back from Karl. With the Heart of Dunhuang in hand, Eric finds the Bai family. Bai Yanfei resentfully remembers that Eric has been out of touch for three years, but the family’s mission compels her not to back down. An angry Karl sends his men to attack the Bai family, leading to a battle for the treasure in Dunhuang...
