In the late Sui Dynasty, Wang Renze (played by Yu Chenghui), the nephew of Sui general Wang Shichong, killed the rebellious Zhang, known for his "divine legs," while supervising the construction of river defense works. However, he caused Zhang's son, Xiaohuzi, to jump into the river to escape. After being rescued by Shaolin monks and taken into the temple, Xiaohuzi resolutely shaved his head to become a monk, taking the Dharma name "Jueyuan" (played by Jet Li). After Wang Renze’s captain encounters the shepherd girl Bai Wuxia (played by Ding Lan), he is infatuated with her beauty and forcibly takes her back to his residence, intending to assault her after drinking. Jueyuan, who comes alone seeking revenge, discovers this and intervenes. In the process of rescuing Bai Wuxia, Jueyuan is injured by Wang Renze due to his insufficient martial skills, prompting him to practice even harder upon returning to Shaolin Temple. Later, after Jueyuan rescues Li Shimin, who is being pursued by Wang Renze, the Shaolin Temple faces calamity, and Jueyuan's responsibilities increase.
