Skilled young man A-Tien (played by Tony Jaa) lives in a peaceful village in Thailand called Badu Village, where he has learned Muay Thai from his master since childhood. One night, a useless youth from the village, Budan, injures A-Tien's master and steals the head of the Buddha statue that the villagers hold dear. Shouldering the villagers' trust and expectations, A-Tien embarks on a journey to find Budan and the stolen Buddha head. After several twists and turns, he finds his fellow villager, A-Han Lai, who is now involved in Bangkok’s underworld. However, A-Han Lai turns out to be a petty thug only interested in money and has no intention of helping; instead, he exploits A-Tien's skills to make a fortune in underground fighting rings. A-Tien gains fame in the underground fight scene but never forgets the Buddha head and continues his search. Inevitably, he will engage in repeated battles with the notorious artifact crime syndicate...
