In a modern city filled with gloom and coldness, where evil thrives, diligent insurance salesman Mark (played by Daniel Wu) has been living with his schizophrenic mother (played by Sammi Cheng) for many years. In order to help his mother move into the best nursing home, Mark works hard to earn money, even resorting to perjury to protect his position. However, a single misstep leads to eternal regret; his act of perjury is discovered by a mysterious figure, who not only steals the money from his account but also demands that he follow their instructions over the phone. During this process, Mark reunites with his high school first love, Jessie (played by Yao Chen), who works at a bank. Unbeknownst to him, Jessie is also caught in the web of the mysterious person, intertwining their fates. Following this, Mark also gets entangled with the powerful gang leader, Tiger (played by Anthony Wong). The mysterious figure seems to be a god, manipulative and triumphant, controlling everyone's destiny...
