A story within 24 hours. In search of his missing girlfriend, Lai Fook (played by Daniel Wu) immigrates from the mainland to Hong Kong, finds a job in Mong Kok, and inadvertently becomes a hitman, getting caught up in the bloody chaos of the underworld. He is taken under the wing of the cunning Old Six, who operates in both legal and illegal circles and acts as an informant for the police, leading Lai Fook down a path of desperation. Along the way, he meets a prostitute named Dan (played by Cecilia Cheung), whose similar background makes their connection instant. Dan is determined to help Lai Fook find his girlfriend while also seeking to change herself. The police repeatedly fail to capture Lai Fook, and just as the gang conflicts begin to subside, Lai Fook and Dan seem to catch a break. However, unexpected twists arise, and the undercurrents in the night of Mong Kok continue to surge.
