During the late Ming Dynasty, treachery prevailed and the world was in chaos. The strong and powerful Jinyiwei dominated for a time, but the Shaolin monks aided the needy and upheld justice, causing their leader Wang Cheng (played by Yu Dalu) to hate them deeply. To counter this, he devised a sinister plan and ordered his capable subordinate Qi Tianyuan (played by Yu Rongguang) to disguise himself as a monk from Jinguang Temple, seeking to infiltrate Shaolin with the intention of becoming the abbot and commanding the world. Shaolin disciple Huineng (played by Xu Xiangdong) learned of Wang Cheng's conspiracy and hurried back to Shaolin, helping a girl named Lin Ying (played by Lin Qiuping) and her family on the prairie by stopping a runaway horse.
