After the death of Kangxi, Yongzheng (played by Yue Hua) ascends the throne. Ignoring righteousness, Yongzheng orders Nian Gengyao (played by Luo Lie) to kill his fellow disciples, the Eight Heroes of Jiangnan. However, a few, including Lu Siniang (played by Xu Feng), manage to escape and vow to kill Yongzheng. Nian Gengyao achieves multiple victories and establishes half of the kingdom for Yongzheng. Due to this, he becomes overconfident and, during the celebratory banquet, loses control after drinking, disregarding Yongzheng and making insulting remarks that enrage him. Yongzheng then demotes Nian, reducing him to a gate guard, and secretly sends assassins to kill him. Fortunately, Lu Siniang and others arrive in time to help Nian escape. Feeling regret for his foolishness, Nian gouges out his eyes in despair and takes his own life, informing Lu Siniang of a secret passage in the palace for assassination before dying. When Lu Siniang and her group fail in their assassination attempt, they resort to a beauty trap, implanting spies in the palace, ultimately succeeding in killing Yongzheng.
