Her boyfriend, Gao Dalong (played by Chang Rong), is a taxi driver. Unable to let Aifei's talent go to waste, he introduces her to Wu Ji (played by Jing Gangshan), the manager of the Sapphire Nightclub, during a karaoke session. Wu encourages Aifei to receive formal vocal training, and soon Aifei begins to shine. As Aifei's fame rises, Dalong feels he is unworthy of her and takes the initiative to break up. Aifei, clinging to her childhood bond with Dalong, gives him her virginity. One night, after a performance, Aifei is harassed by a thug, and Dalong comes to her rescue, but accidentally kills a bystander. Although the nightclub's manager, Han Shaoyi, tries to help him, Dalong is still sentenced to five years for manslaughter. Aifei leaves the nightclub and returns to the fashion store, becoming taciturn. However, she soon returns to the music scene with one goal: to earn money desperately, as all her thoughts are with Dalong in the labor camp's farm...
