During World War I, France recruited a large number of soldiers from its African colonies through conscription, and 17-year-old Tierno was one of them. To protect his son, his father Bakary also chose to enlist. What will happen to them as they are sent to the front lines to face the brutal war? This film is the second feature directed and written by French director Mathieu Vadepied, focusing on the overlooked Senegalese colonial soldiers in World War I and incorporating elements of family, telling the poignant and heroic stories of nameless heroes against the backdrop of war. It also serves as an exploration of the historical roots of today's racial issues in France. The role of the father is played by Omar Sy, who won the César Award for Best Actor for his performance in "The Intouchables." His calm and resolute acting in the film is compelling, and the reversal of the father-son power dynamic is handled with care and detail. Nominated in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
