In the early stages of World War II, American pilot Robert Smith (played by Joshua Hannum) arrives in China to join the fight against the Japanese invaders. During a mission transporting supplies from India to China, his military plane unfortunately crashes on the mysterious plateau of Tibet. Miraculously surviving the crash, Robert tries to find his way back to his unit. However, the harsh climatic conditions make his journey extremely difficult, until he reaches a Tibetan tribe. The local young Tibetan woman Yongcuo (played by Song Jia), a single mother, is considered a “cursed woman” by her people. As a result, the tribe decides that Yongcuo will take care of him. The blonde Robert is viewed as a monster by the local Tibetans and is pursued relentlessly by the Tibetan young serf Jiangcuo (played by He Run Dong). In this emotionally repressed space, Robert and Yongcuo fall in love. Two lost souls embark on a unique journey together. This Tibetan adventure romance film "Tibet Yesterday," directed by emerging filmmaker Dai Wei and shot by internationally acclaimed cinematographer Li Pingbin, is adapted from the novel "The Cat of Shambala" by renowned Tibetan writer and president of the Tibet Writers Association, Zhashi Dawa. The film was shot on the Tibetan plateau at an altitude of over 4,800 meters, under very harsh conditions. On October 16, 2010, the film had its exhibition and premiere at the 19th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.
