Los Angeles police have surrounded Joe (Bruce Willis) and Terry (Billy Bob Thornton) who are in the middle of a bank robbery, leaving them no chance of escape. At this moment, memories of their past experiences flash before them: action-oriented Joe and talkative Terry spontaneously decided to break out of prison during their sentence and surprisingly succeeded. They recruited Joe's cousin Harvey to help them rob a bank, and their unique method of robbing an Oregon bank quickly turned them into the infamous "overnight bandits," as reported by the media. After their successful heist, the three went their separate ways. Not long after, red-haired Kate (Cate Blanchett), who left her husband due to neglect, met Terry and unwittingly became involved with Joe’s gang, falling in love with Joe. Terry also developed a fondness for Kate and, after some awkward efforts, managed to get closer to her. Joe and Terry faced a showdown, but Kate expressed that she loved being with both of them. The enjoyable times always seemed too short; during their ongoing bank robberies, Joe and Terry reached the end of their criminal careers... This film is based on a true story and won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress at the 2002 Florida Film Critics Circle Awards.
