In 117 AD, the Roman Empire was expanding relentlessly. However, in northern Britain, this expansion was thwarted by the local barbarians—the Picts. Centurion Quintus (played by Michael Fassbender) was appointed to lead the famed Ninth Legion to annihilate the Picts after surviving their attack. Yet, the Ninth Legion was ambushed by the Picts, and Legion commander General Virilus (played by Dominic West) was captured. Quintus fought desperately against the enemy, managing to escape with a few men. They not only had to face the pursuit of the Picts but also hoped to rescue the general. Unbeknownst to them, the fiercely vengeful Aline (played by Olga Kurylenko), whose family was slaughtered by the Romans and who had her tongue cut out, was hunting them down. A perilous rebellion to escape the Roman frontier was about to begin...
