Fit (Jack Lemmon) and Leslie (Tony Curtis) decide to embark on an incredible super race, starting in New York and ending in Paris. This astonishing competition quickly attracts media attention, leading to extensive coverage. Female reporter Maggie (Natalie Wood) wants to follow the race and interview along the way, and after much persuasion, she finally convinces Leslie to let her join him in his race car for the entire journey. This is a long race, during which Leslie and Maggie constantly clash. They can't stand each other's personalities but are also deeply attracted to one another. Gradually, amidst their exchanges, they spark a romance. As they near the finish, Leslie even stops the car just to propose to Maggie.
