"Painting of Beauty" tells the story of the famous genius painter Shin Yun-bok, who disguised herself as a man during the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. Shin Yun-bok (played by Kim Min-sun) has her father's hopes for family prosperity placed upon her; as a result, she hides her female identity, dresses as a man, and learns painting under a local artist, Kim Hong-do (played by Kim Young-ho), working hard to sell her paintings to landlords for a living. The rough-tempered Gang-moo (played by Kim Nam-gil), a merchant of bronze mirrors, discovers Shin Yun-bok's true identity by chance and falls in love with her, making Yun-bok realize the romantic fate of being a woman. However, there is also a peculiar relationship between her teacher Kim Hong-do and his apprentice; he does not allow Yun-bok to betray him and tries every means to prevent her from being with Gang-moo. Meanwhile, the famous courtesan Snow Flower (played by Choo Ja-hyun) is deeply in love with Kim Hong-do. Where will these four people end up? Can Shin Yun-bok and Gang-moo protect their love? Will Shin Yun-bok's identity as a woman be revealed? Can she ultimately change her life and become a renowned painter in Joseon?
