The film tells the story of scholar Ning Caichen who travels to the capital for the imperial examination. At midnight, he spends the night at Lan Ruo Temple with Daoist Yan Chixia. Unexpectedly, once inside, he finds it is a different world, full of vibrant nightlife where many patrons and beautiful women indulge in joy.
