Over a thousand years ago, Viking warrior Steiner (Charlie Bewley) and fellow warriors Grimmi (Michael Jibson) and Hagan (Clive Standen) engage in a brutal and perilous battle against invading Saxons. Not long after, the Viking king (James Cosmo) falls gravely ill. He is reluctant to pass the throne to his son Steiner, who does not believe in the gods or prophecies and only values his own strength, nor does he have plans for his ambitious other son Harold (Finlay Robertson). The old king instructs Steiner to find his long-exiled eldest son Hakon (Elliot Cowan) and appoint him as the new king. Steiner accepts his father's command and embarks on a dangerous journey with Hagan, Grimmi, and his half-brother Vali (Theo Barklem-Biggs) to search for his brother. Meanwhile, Harold secretly conspires with the Saxons, and the fate of the Vikings hangs in the balance.
