Along the way, he unexpectedly meets the Taiwanese gang leader (played by Eric Tsang) and his daughter (played by Chiu Shuk-chun). They become close friends, but the leader is ambushed and killed, leaving Ko Chun to save his young son as they flee together. Meanwhile, a laid-back mainlander (played by Tony Leung) and his sister (played by Wu Chien-lien) stumble upon Ko Chun during his escape, with a mainland police captain (played by Julie Xu) in pursuit, leading to a cat-and-mouse game.
