During the Ming Dynasty, an emperor learned of the severe crimes committed by Chancellor Pan and his son. He decided to secretly travel to Jiangnan. Coincidentally, a scholar named Zhu Ziqian passed through Hangzhou and witnessed Chancellor Pan's son robbing a common girl, Shen Meiniang, and killing her mother. Angered, he went to the Hangzhou government to beat drums and report the incident. Prefect Liu Qian was already aware of the emperor's secret visit and mistakenly thought Zhu's sharp words came from the emperor. Zhu took the opportunity to issue a decree to execute Pan's son, punishing corrupt officials. Later, with the help of the common people, Zhu Ziqian and Shen Meiniang fled to another land together.
