On a winter night in the first year of the Taisho era, down-and-out Ohta Katsuzo (played by Ken Ogata) elopes with the geisha Toyotake Ryotsuru (played by Kimiko Ikegami), only to be pursued by the gang associated with the geisha house. In her dying moments, Ryotsuru entrusts her infant daughter to Katsuzo. Twenty years later, Katsuzo has become a broker for geishas, and his daughter, House (played by Kimiko Ikegami), is tall and exceptionally beautiful.
