On a winter night in the first year of the Taisho era, down-and-out Ohta Katsuzo (played by Ken Ogata) elopes with the geisha Toyotake Ryotsuru (played by Kimiko Ikegami), only to be pursued by the gang associated with the geisha house. In her dying moments, Ryotsuru entrusts her infant daughter to Katsuzo. Twenty years later, Katsuzo has become a broker for geishas, and his daughter, House (played by Kimiko Ikegami), is tall and exceptionally beautiful. Katsuzo sends House to Sunshine Building, asking the proprietress—who is also Ryotsuru's former romantic rival—Asaye (played by Mitsuko Baisho) to be House's mentor. After rigorous training, House, renamed Momowaka, ultimately becomes a signature performer at Sunshine Building. On the other hand, the gang from Osaka, led by the Inasuka family, plots to invade the area where Katsuzo resides. Favor, family ties, and love intertwine with debts and rivalries from the underworld, creating a human tragedy that words cannot express... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Tomicko Miyau.
