Wandering performer Zhang Xuan, accompanied by his daughter Cai Feng (played by Wang Ling), travels around showcasing their talents and arrives in Qiantang County, Zhejiang. Here, Cai Feng meets a scholar named Li Yu (played by Situ Lin). Li Yu is deeply attracted to the exceptional skills of Cai Feng, and Cai Feng is captivated by Li Yu's vast knowledge and talent, making them a perfect match. At this critical moment, an imperial envoy is dispatched to Qiantang to select eight hundred beauties, which is not a good thing. Once this news spreads, all the citizens start to look for suitors for their daughters, hoping that marriage will help them avoid disaster, which instantly makes the charming Li Yu a hot commodity. The wealthy man Wang Yuanwai (played by Guan Wu) sets his sights on Li Yu as a potential son-in-law and forcibly drags him into his household, imprisoning him. Late at night, Li Yu escapes over the wall and accidentally lands in the yard of the neighboring house, where he encounters Zhang Xuan and Cai Feng, who are temporarily staying there.
