Lin Dan (played by Donnie Yen) is principled and tough. Displeased with the duplicitous nature of his boss, he resigns in anger. Lin Dan's friend Bian Ya is also an ambitious police officer, but he is marginalized by his superior and demoted to a patrol officer. However, Bian Ya's personality is much calmer and gentler than Lin Dan's. He tries hard to convince Lin Dan not to quit, but Lin Dan has completely lost faith in the police force. After advising Bian Ya to take care of himself, he leaves. Duanmu Lingfeng (played by Jason Tsou) is a seemingly refined yet ruthless gangster. He will stop at nothing, including murder and arson, to find the long-lost Ancient Treasure Tablet. The legendary tablet has been divided into three pieces, owned by three young individuals: Jiang Shangfei, Meng Shaobai, and Cheng Tingfang. Because of the tablet, Meng Shaobai and Cheng Tingfang's adoptive father are murdered one after the other, and these three young people, along with Tingfang's brother, are hunted by the killers under Duanmu Lingfeng and their police superior, Captain Lu, who has been bribed by Duanmu. Bian Ya, caught up in this turmoil, saves the children multiple times. Duanmu Lingfeng also repeatedly sends powerful assassins to hunt them down. Fortunately, Lin Dan, with his extraordinary skills, appears in time and decisively teaches the vicious assassins a lesson. In the end, the children in the jungle and Bian Ya finally find the legendary chest that contains the treasure, but Duanmu Lingfeng arrives with his subordinates to snatch it away, leading to a fierce battle. By the time Lin Dan arrives, Bian Ya is already gravely injured. Before dying, he pleads with Lin Dan to take care of the children.
