In the Meiji period, a man named Nanda Shuuichi (played by Yanagiyuurei), who inherited his parents' fortune, lives a life free of financial worries. His wife, Tokuko (played by Miyaji Mao), is beautiful and elegant, with an extraordinary demeanor. However, the relationship between the couple seems to be strained; Shuuichi is infatuated with his wife to the point of madness, while Tokuko is fearful of her husband and desperately seeks to escape. Shortly thereafter, Tokuko falls in love with Shuuichi's friend, Kotohira (played by Oura Ryuichi), who runs a dental clinic, leading to a scandalous affair. Sensing his wife's unusual behavior, Shuuichi decides to investigate, but is thwarted by Kotohira. Meanwhile, Kotohira hires the detective Akechi Kogorou to investigate Tokuko to distract attention. Kogorou's wife, Fumiyo (played by Hoshino Mari), volunteers to help but discovers that this love triangle is sinking deeper into a morass of death... This film is adapted from Edogawa Rampo's novel "The Man Who Lost His Wife".
