The film tells the story of a boy named Tomek (played by Olaf Lubaszenko), who uses a telescope to spy on a woman named Magda (played by Grazyna Szapolowska) living in the opposite apartment building and unknowingly falls in love with her. Every move she makes captivates Tomek, and her every smile and frown sends shivers through him. Through the telescope, Tomek sees Magda having sex with a man but hesitates to reveal his feelings. It is only when he sees her crying in despair that he musters the courage to ask her out. However, Magda rejects his confession. Tomek's belief in pure love collapses, leading him to contemplate suicide to preserve his loyalty to love. The suicide attempt fails, and when he is discharged from the hospital, Magda surprisingly begins to fall for him. The film is a work expanded from the sixth story of director Krzysztof Kieślowski's "The Decalogue" and won multiple awards at the 1988 San Sebastián International Film Festival.
