Rango (voiced by Johnny Depp) is a skinny, green lizard who lives in a fish tank. The fake backdrop of blue skies, white clouds, and coconut trees bores him to death. This fantasy-loving and theatrical guy can only construct his own heroic tales in his mind. One day, however, an accident drives him out of his usual enclosed space, and Rango inexplicably finds himself on a highway in the western wilderness. While traversing the desert, Rango is attacked by a hawk. After a series of twists and turns, he arrives at a small town named Dirt, which is home to many insects and animals, in a state of disrepair, resembling a dead city. Rango unexpectedly takes down the ferocious hawk, and thus he is viewed as a hero by the townsfolk. He enjoys this honor, but being a hero is not easy... This film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2012; the Annie Awards for Best Animated Feature, Best Character Design, Best Editing, and Best Writing in 2012; and the Teen Choice Award for Best Voice in 2011 (Johnny Depp).
