Tracy Turnblad (played by Nicole Blonsky) grows up in a typical American family in the 1960s. She becomes obsessed with a TV dance competition and dreams of shining on stage. However, Tracy's mother, having lacked confidence due to her own weight issues since childhood, often worries that Tracy's obesity will be an obstacle for her.
