Synopsis: Kafka is a renowned existentialist master of the twentieth century. This film features him as the male protagonist, but it is not a serious biopic; rather, it tells a rather unique political thriller based on an odd encounter from his youth. At the time, Kafka was a clerk at an insurance company who, despite receiving praise for publishing "The Metamorphosis," remained reclusive and introverted, avoiding interaction with colleagues. One day, his only close colleague mysteriously drowns, and his fiancée, unable to accept the police's ruling of suicide, seeks Kafka's help to uncover the truth. Since both of them are anarchist revolutionaries, the organization demands that Kafka join them and assist in writing leaflets. Kafka refuses their request, getting caught in the center of a vortex where he discovers a horrifying truth. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, known for "Sex, Lies, and Videotape," the film captures an intense and ambiguous atmosphere, while lead actor Jeremy Irons gives an outstanding performance, cleverly portraying the inner world of a delusional individual.
