Mike (Dennis Quaid), Cyril (Daniel Stern), Mutch (Jackie Earle Haley), and David (Dennis Christopher) are high school friends. Now, as their high school life is about to come to an end, the quarry they planned to work at is suddenly facing closure. Against the backdrop of a turbulent era, the bewildered figures of these four young men seem so small. What the other three didn't expect is that David, who has always acted strangely, suddenly decides to become an Italian bike race competitor.
