The story takes place during the late Ming Dynasty. Yang Duxing (played by Yang Mingjian) is unparalleled in martial arts but has never involved himself in the grievances of the martial world. One day, Li Tianqiu (played by Zhou Guobin), the younger brother of the White Lotus Sect's senior disciple, is poisoned and dies at home. Valuing his reputation above all, Yang Duxing vows to find the true culprit behind the poisoning. He confronts the second disciple of the White Lotus Sect, Liu Heihu (played by Zhao Xiaorui), who claims that someone instigated the incident and suggests waiting to clarify the facts before proceeding. That night, an assassin attempts to kill Yang Duxing but fails.
