Teenage Claire Lyons (Ellen Marlow) moves with her parents from Orlando to Westchester. Because they have not yet found a suitable place to live, the Lyons family temporarily stays at the home of their friend William Brock (David Chisum). Brock's daughter, Massie (Elizabeth McLaughlin), lives in luxury and has a flamboyant personality. The private girls’ school she attends, Octavian Country Day School, is filled with privileged girls. To her, Claire, who dresses simply and has a pure personality, is like an ugly duckling. The different identities and backgrounds make it impossible for the two girls to establish an equal friendship. Massie and her clique devise ways to bully Claire at school, while Claire, driven by vanity, is determined to befriend this group of wealthy girls. Throughout this process, both of them lose themselves... This film is adapted from the first book of the bestselling young adult novel by American author Lisi Harrison.
