Wendy (Patricia Clarkson) has been a book critic for twenty-one years, living in an ivory tower and her own world, unable to even drive. She relies on her husband for transportation and doesn't feel inconvenienced by it. However, to Wendy's surprise, her husband suddenly asks for a divorce and decisively leaves her. In an instant, Wendy's world collapses, and she begins to doubt and resent every man around her. Yet, the biggest issue is that she has lost her only "driver." In desperation, Wendy decides to learn how to drive. Darwan (Ben Kingsley) is her instructor, an Indian political refugee who faces misunderstandings and exclusion from those around him due to his identity and appearance. Thus, Wendy and Darwan start their lessons, and two wounded hearts inevitably spark a romance in the confined space of a small car.
