Several years after Hirata Shuuzou (played by Koji Hashizume) and his wife Tomiko (played by Kazuko Yoshiyuki) are in the midst of a divorce, their eldest son Yukinosuke and his wife worry about the dangers of elderly drivers, planning to have their father Shuuzou return his driver's license. However, the stubborn Shuuzou refuses to give it up, casting an uneasy atmosphere over the Hirata family once again. One day, Shuuzou unexpectedly meets Murata Ginpei, a classmate, and the owner of an izakaya, while driving back to his hometown of Hiroshima. Murata has become a lonely and desolate old man. Shuuzou organizes a class reunion in an effort to make Murata happy. Touched by the gesture, Murata shares the experiences of his years, and that night he passes away in his sleep...
