Freshman Beca (played by Anna Kendrick) at Barden University accidentally joins the school's all-female a cappella group, which is made up of a diverse array of quirky, good, and bad women, with the only common trait being their ability to sing beautifully like angels. The group members include: the self-proclaimed best singer and exuding confidence, "Fat Amy" (played by Rebel Wilson), the often rude yet stubbornly traditional Aubrey (played by Anna Camp), the group's emotional backbone Chloe (played by Brittany Snow), the promiscuous diva Stacie (played by Alexis Knapp), the surprisingly captivating singer and tomboy Cynthia Rose (played by Ester Dean), and the soft-spoken yet impressive freestyle rapper Hannah May Lee. How will the out-of-place Beca use her incredible talent to change the traditional performance style of a cappella? And how will she lead this group of girls to compete against fiercely competitive national vocal groups?
