In the Qing Dynasty, after failing to become a top scholar despite taking the exam more than ten times, Scholar Zhu (played by Huang Baiming) angered his father to death, drove away his wife, and ultimately committed suicide by hanging himself in a temple due to injustice. As a result, he could not reincarnate, and his soul became attached to the hemp rope he used to hang himself. The story moves to the 1980s, where Hong Kong high school girls Lin Xiaohua (Li Lijun), Lin Qingqing (Luo Mingzhu), and Yan Ruyu (Lin Shanshan) encounter a storm during their summer travel. To seek shelter from the rain, they barge into the temple where Scholar Zhu committed suicide. After the rain ends, Lin Qingqing accidentally brings the hemp rope containing Scholar Zhu's soul into their living quarters, causing screams. However, as they communicate more deeply, they slowly become close friends, supporting each other and gaining a clearer understanding of the paths they need to take next—though there are plenty of humorous moments along the way.
