Ah Ren (played by Xu Guanjie) from the bread factory and Ah Shen (played by Tsui Hark) and Ah Qing (played by Teddy Robin) from the trailer factory lose their jobs due to a minor car accident. Ah Ren has to lie to cope with his mother who raised him, while Ah Qing follows his friend Ah Shen home to temporarily live under the same roof. The saying goes that not knowing someone well can lead to unexpected friendships; the three become good friends as a result of this incident and eventually start working at the emperor's factory, but encounter trouble on their first day. The workshop director (played by Ng Man-tat) and the factory manager engage in nepotism, turning black into white, trying to fire the three to cover up for a woman who made a mistake. Thanks to the help of the chairman's daughter Ah Mei (played by Brigitte Lin), they manage to keep their jobs. From then on, the three friends, along with Ah Mei, engage in a hilarious battle of wits against the corrupt factory manager...
