A coin piques the interest of explorer Dirk (Matthew McConaughey) as it is intricately connected to a treasure legend. Dirk is a thrill-seeker who cannot stay still for a moment; he embarks on a convoluted adventure along the Niger River in West Africa, peeling back the layers of mystery surrounding the coin. More critically, he uncovers a major crisis that could threaten humanity and destroy the Earth—a dictatorship in Africa colluding with local tycoons to dump nuclear materials into the ocean. The local people are suffering immensely and are in a frenzy; if action is not taken promptly, the danger will escalate rapidly. Dirk joins forces with scientist Eva (Penélope Cruz) in a righteous battle against evil forces and the perilous natural environment, encountering numerous dangers along the way.
