The fantasy comedy "The Voice of the Moon" is Fellini's posthumous work, adapted from Cavazzoni's novel "The Moon of the Weird People." Savini, who retains a childlike heart despite being middle-aged, desperately strives to listen to the moon's voice, but what he hears is the cheering of a group of peeping men, the sudden groans of dubbed voices, and the rustling sound of a typhoon. When he climbs onto the roof to catch the moon, a commotion breaks out on the ground. In the end, the moon remains high in the sky, and Savini talks to the moon at length... At first glance, this film seems absurd and purely triumphant in its ideas and imagery, a romantic work with a flavor of late-century decadence. Fellini, using his usual techniques, especially through symbolism, metaphor, and the grotesque, portrays the various experiences of numerous characters in life and their eccentric behaviors, deeply revealing the absurdity of contemporary Italian social life and the signs of its decline and disintegration, while the comedic genius Roberto Benigni delivers a remarkable performance.
