Joey (played by Sylvester Stallone) is a decisive and no-nonsense LAPD detective, but the one thing he can't manage in his life is his mother, Tutti (played by Estelle Getty). Tutti has spoiled her son since childhood, and even though he has grown into a strong man, in her eyes, Joey is still a little baby who needs her care. One day, by chance, Tutti becomes a witness to a crime, and coincidentally, Joey is the officer in charge of the case. This makes the old lady very happy as she can rightfully stay by her son's side and even interfere with his work. Moreover, she decides to take this opportunity to find a good daughter-in-law at the police station.
